With around One million employees the mechanical engineering is the largest industrial sector in Germany, ahead of electronics, vehicle manufacture and chemical industry. Within Germany the State of Bavaria is among the Top 3 regions with an estimated workforce of 200.000 people and a turnover of more than 40 billion EURO.  Small and medium sized companies dominate. With an export share of more than 60% Business is mainly export oriented. The sector is very diverse. With 38 different branches – one of the largest is the machine tool sector – and around 20.000 different products the machinery sector provides a wide range of solutions for almost all kinds of industries. One of the key strength here is the flexibility and an outstanding engineering know how, which becomes obvious when you see the leading role of German companies in patent applications.

The business relation between Russia and Bavaria are traditional characterised by its high vitality. So for years Russia has been one of the most dynamic export markets for Bavarian engineering companies. In 2010 a Bavarian business delegation headed by VDMA and Bayern International visited Novosibirsk and had the chance to familiarise with the business opportunities in Siberia. As follow up a group of seven Bavarian companies decided to join the trade show Mashex Siberia this year. The main objective of the official Bavarian participation is to promote successful business relations between our Bavarian companies and potential Russian partners.
